How BOTOX® Cosmetic Works

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by relaxing facial muscles, allowing your skin to become smooth and more youthful in appearance. This is accomplished by a temporary interruption of signals between the muscles and nerves that cause contraction. While these signals are interrupted, they are not destroyed and BOTOX® Cosmetic will not interfere with normal facial movement.

Over a period of three to four months BOTOX® Cosmetic will wear off and the muscles will again tense. At this point you can come back to our office for additional treatments or simply allow your skin to return to its previous condition.

Despite some common misconceptions, BOTOX® Cosmetic will not speed or enhance the aging process. If you discontinue treatments, your skin will simply return to its natural state.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is largely considered safe, but there are some risks that can come with its use. Most commonly these things, such as redness and irritation, are temporary, but some serious issues can occur, particularly when BOTOX® Cosmetic is used inappropriately.

Working with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Eisemann can reduce these risks. This will be discussed with you in more detail during your Houston BOTOX® Cosmetic consultation.
