Breast Lift Houston
Over time, the skin of a woman's breasts will lose elasticity and begin to sag due to factors such as sun exposure, weight loss, age, pregnancy, and breast-feeding. At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston Texas, breast lift surgery (or mastopexy) will correct sagging and restore breasts to their original, natural position, resulting in a more youthful looking appearance. In addition to raising the breasts, a breast lift surgery can make overly large areola (pigmented skin around the nipple) smaller, and can also enhance breast volume when performed along with a breast augmentation (breast implants) surgery. If the patient is already happy with the volume of her breasts, then a breast lift surgery alone will achieve a very pleasing result.
Dr. Eisemann usually recommends that a breast lift surgery be performed under intravenous sedation in his nationally accredited plastic surgery suite in Houston. Less often the procedure is performed in the hospital under general anesthesia. Breast lift surgery typically takes one and one half hours to complete. Recovery takes about a week.
During pre-surgical consultations for breast lift surgery, Dr. Eisemann and the patient will discuss anesthesia preferences, as well as the surgical incision site. Based on the patient's age, health, and desired result, Dr. Eisemann will make the most appropriate recommendations. The choice of incision will depend on factors such as the size of the patient's breasts, and the shape and location of the nipple. A periareolar incision (made around the nipple) may be used for patients who need only a small amount of breast lift. For patients with larger breasts, a more extensive incision, such as a vertical incision or an inverted-T, will be necessary to elevate the nipple properly.
During breast lift surgery, the appropriate incision is made and excess breast skin is removed. Then the nipple and areola are raised to the correct position which corresponds to the level of the breast fold. After breast lift surgery most patients return home.
During the week after breast lift surgery, patients may be uncomfortable and find that their breasts are bruised and swollen. Oral pain medication can be taken to easily manage any discomfort. Several days after surgery, the breasts will be placed in a soft and supportive sports-type bra that will be worn continuously for three to four weeks. Most patients can expect to be up and around within a day or two of breast lift surgery, but they should plan to take a full week off from heavy work. Regular activities and exercise may be resumed gradually after two weeks.
Over the next several months, the scars around the areola or vertically extending to the breast fold will soften, flatten, mature and lighten, leaving a mature finer line scar. Patients who undergo a breast lift in Houston will find that the surgical scars do not prevent them from wearing bathing suits, lingerie, or low-cut blouses. Should a patient become pregnant in the future, breast lift surgery will not impair her ability to breast feed since the nipple and milk ducts are left intact. Patients should discuss any concerns or questions regarding future pregnancies with Dr. Eisemann during the initial breast lift surgery consultation.
