Plastic Surgery Houston Testimonials

Breast Reduction Houston

For some women large, heavy breasts can cause an array of problems. Excess weight in the breasts commonly causes neck, shoulder, and back pain. Large and sagging breasts can cause chronic skin irritation and infections in the fold under the breast. Some women who have overly large breasts may have difficulty participating in certain physical activities and exercises, and may also experience debilitating feelings of self-consciousness. All of these problems can be relieved by breast reduction surgery.

At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston, there are several different procedures available for breast reduction surgery. During a pre-surgical consultation, Dr. Eisemann will recommend the procedure that will best suit the patient’s anatomy and desired aesthetic, and he will address any questions or concerns that she may have about breast reduction surgery. For younger women who have large breasts, the surgeon will usually recommend postponing a breast reduction surgery until the breasts have reached their fully mature size. Women considering breast reduction are encouraged to complete all breast feeding before surgery, although it may still possible to breast feed afterwards.

For some patients, a breast reduction may be performed using liposuction. This procedure leaves very small incision scars and requires minimal recovery time after breast reduction surgery, but is only effective for patients who want a relatively small reduction in breast size.

For most patients, breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia using the inverted-T method. During this surgery, an incision is made around the nipple, vertically down to the fold under the breast, and horizontally in the breast fold. As excess skin, areola, breast fat and tissue are removed, the nipple remains attached to the chest wall in order to maintain blood supply and preserve sensation in the nerves. The nipple is then lifted and sutured into place higher on the chest wall. Finally, the remaining breast tissue is brought together below the nipple, creating the breast’s new contour.

After breast reduction surgery, most patients will stay overnight in Dr. Eisemann’s fully accredited plastic surgery clinic in Houston or in the hospital, and are discharged the next day. Most patients will be prescribed oral pain medication to control discomfort at home.

Dr. Eisemann will advise each patient in regards to follow-up care after breast reduction surgery. In most cases, the nipple sutures will be removed on the fifth day after surgery, and any remaining sutures will be removed after two weeks. The breast dressings will be removed several days after surgery, and the patient will wear a sports-type bra continuously for several weeks after a breast reduction, until any swelling and bruising have diminished.

After a breast reduction, most women find they are able to return to work in a week or two, and can resume their accustomed level of physical activity two weeks after surgery. Breast reduction results are not often immediately apparent, as it will take several months for the tissue heal and the scars to soften and flatten. Once fully healed, however, the final result of breast reduction at Houston’s Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center will be a smaller, firmer, and more beautiful breast.
