Chin Surgery in Houston - Chin Augmentation
The symmetry of a person’s facial features is one of the most important characteristics that we associate with physical attraction. Chin surgery is designed to help balance a patient’s facial features creating a more proportional face. Patients who desire a stronger jaw line and more defined chin may find that chin augmentation surgery is the right choice for them.Dr. Eisemann is Triple Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS), and the American Board of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (ABOto). All of which make him uniquely qualified to perform this surgery.
Chin augmentation begins with a small extraoral incision that is made in a skin crease beneath the front of the jaw. Dr. Eisemann will then position a carefully customized Silastic chin implant through the incision on top of the bone. Alternately he may recommend another type of chin augmentation that does not require an implant. For this procedure (osseous genioplasty) Dr. Eisemann will make a horizontal bone cut at the lower one third of the front of the chin and advance this segment forward, backward, to the right or left. This will not cause any change in the patient’s bite or occlusion.
Whichever chin surgery is recommended the result is a full more defined chin that will improve the balance of the patient’s profile and overall facial appearance. At the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center Chin Augmentation is often performed at the same time as rhinoplasty.
Aside from many aesthetic reasons, chin surgery is also done for medical purposes. Dr. Eisemann has preformed this surgery for people with birth defects where the chin appears small or distorted inhibiting a patient's ability to function properly. A receding chin may obstruct breathing at night causing obstructive sleep apnea. The Osseous Genioplasty requires no external skin incision. Everything is done intraorally with absorbable sutures. The advanced segment of bone is fixed in position with mini plates and screws which are not palpable.
