Houston - Innovative Laser Treatments

(IPL) Intensive Pulse Light Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation successfully improves sun-damage, age spots (sun-induced freckles), broken capillaries, facial veins, and dark spots. The beauty of this non-invasive treatment is that there is virtually no "down time". In short, we can achieve a fresher looking face with a far less invasive procedure than cosmetic surgery or laser. Also, IPL using the photorejuvenation process treats the entire face rather than a single isolated area or imperfection, imparting an overall revitalized and youthful appearance.
The advantages of IPL over other skin resurfacing methods are tremendous, particularly for a younger population with mild to moderate skin damage. A treatment takes only 20 minutes, and you can return to work or daily activities immediately. It is administered in a series of four to six treatment sessions, providing gradual, natural improvement with excellent long-term results.

Laser Hair Removal

It is very common for both men and women to desire less hair on particular parts of their body. Laser hair removal is a cost-effective, comfortable, and safe procedure for removing unwanted body hair. Most patients have tried countless alternatives for removing hair, such as waxing, shaving, tweezing, and even electrolysis, with frustrating results. While most methods are very temporary, electrolysis, like laser hair removal, is semi-permanent, but is quite time-consuming. Electrolysis takes hours to cover a small area because it cauterizes and destroys each individual hair follicle. Because Dr. Eisemann's light treatment hair removal process focuses on multiple hair follicles at a time, larger surface areas like the arms, back, legs, and abdomen are as easy to treat as the smaller, more focused areas like the upper lip and the bikini line. Compared to most of the procedures Dr. Eisemann performs, light treatment hair removal is quick and the recovery time is minimal.
If hair removal sounds appropriate to your needs, you should understand that there are several types of treatments for permanent hair reduction, and a consultation is important for finding which method of hair removal is best for you. While the results of hair removal vary from person to person depending on hormone levels, hair quality, metabolism, hair type, number of follicles, skin type, and pigment variation, we have found that most patients have been very pleased with the results of light treatment hair removal. Laser hair removal sends energy into the pigment of hair shafts, which is then absorbed by the surrounding follicles. Another factor in the success of laser hair removal is the phases of growth that each hair goes through. The growth cycle of normal hair occurs in three stages: the anagen phase, the telogen phase, and the catagen phase. Laser hair removal is effective on hair in the anagen phase, but less so in the other two phases. Complete removal of hair usually requires multiple laser hair removal sessions. After consulting with Dr. Eisemann, test patches may be used to determine whether a patient's particular hair responds well to the laser hair removal treatment. During the actual treatment the area will be shaved clean and treated with an anesthetic cream in order to minimize discomfort. You may feel intense light emissions on the skin as the hair follicles absorb the laser, but each laser pulse only lasts a fraction of a second over an area approximately one inch long. The whole treatment could take as short as five minutes for an area like the upper lip, or up to an hour for larger areas like the legs or the back. Again, several laser hair removal treatment sessions may be necessary to account for hairs that are in different stages of growth.
If you are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and are willing to commit some time to being informed about the procedure, laser hair removal with Dr. Eisemann may be the best option for you. The best candidates for laser hair removal are often patients with light skin and dark, coarse hair who have not had a recent tan.

Acne Treatment

Tender, red, and elevated facial pustules and vesicles are seen with active acne. This can be very psychologically distressing especially to young adults. Without treatment, permanent facial scarring can result. Treatment includes topical and systemic antibiotics including tetracycline derivatives as well as Retin A, Accutane, and vitamin A derivatives. While Accutane has demonstrated excellent results, it must be carefully monitored for serious side effects and can cause teratogenic congenital anomalies (birth defects) in children of pregnant mothers taking this medication.
An exciting new alternative to Accutane is now available at the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center. This new light based treatment using Intense Pulse Light and Levulan (aminolevulonic acid) has shown 50-75% clearance of the acute acne condition. Several treatment sessions are necessary, 1-3 weeks apart. It is however necessary to avoid direct sunlight and use topical sun block one to two days after each treatment session. Other treatment options are available as well, including invasive treatments such as Fraxel, laser treatments, or Dermabrasion for facial scarring and deep acne pitting.
