Liposuction continues to be among the most popular body contouring procedures in Houston and across the country. Lipo is one of the most effective ways to remove stubborn fat deposits that refuse to respond to diet and exercise alone.

What areas of the body can liposuction treat?

At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann can use liposuction in Houston to remove stubborn deposits of fat from many areas of your body, including:

  • Ankles and calves
  • Inner knee
  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Chest area
  • Cheeks, chin, and neck

Your custom body contouring procedure

Liposuction can produce excellent results, but for a more dramatic enhancement, it may be combined with other procedures. In your private consultation with Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann, we can discuss your cosmetic goals to determine whether you may need additional procedures. For a more thorough enhancement, many patients choose to undergo liposuction in combination with a tummy tuck, buttock augmentation, or as part of a mommy makeover.

Tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction: What treatment is right for you?

Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann uses both the tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction techniques. These advanced liposuction techniques are both incredibly effective, but neither is ideal for every need. During your initial consultation, Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann will assess your areas of concern and recommend the right technique for your body.

  • Tumescent liposuction: This approach involves an injection of localized anesthetic and surgical solution to help loosen fat deposits from the surrounding tissues for a more thorough removal. This technique may be used alone or in conjunction with ultrasonic liposuction depending on your specific needs.
  • Ultrasonic liposuction: This technique involves the use of ultrasound waves to emulsify fat deposits prior to removal.

Benefits of ultrasonic liposuction

The ultrasonic technique allows for a very complete removal of unsightly fat and offers several advantages including:

  • Less damage to surrounding tissue
  • Less trauma, resulting in a shorter recovery period
  • Fewer risks of excessive bleeding
  • Lower surgical and post-operative risks

Why choose us?

Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are dedicated to providing the safest and most effective Houston liposuction treatments. Considered one of Houston’s leading body contouring surgeons, and offering three decades of experience, Dr. Michael Eisemann, with the assistance of his son, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, will advise you of the liposuction techniques that are most appropriate for you.

How is liposuction performed?

A small incision will be placed, through which the excess fat will be removed. Thanks to the advanced forms of liposuction utilized by our Houston plastic surgeons, this incision will be incredibly small and, if properly cared for during recovery, become all but unnoticeable within a few months of your procedure.

The removal of excess fat is accomplished with a small cannula (hollow needle), inserted into the treatment area and used to break apart and suction away the unwanted fat, gently. Once a safe amount of fat is removed, the tiny incisions are closed, and the recovery process begins. It is essential that you follow all of Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann’s pre and post-operative instructions to protect against developing any physical or aesthetic complications.

Is it painful to have liposuction?

Swelling, bruising, and post-operative discomfort are common with liposuction. Discomfort can be managed with OTC medications or, if needed, medications prescribed by our Houston plastic surgeon.

Swelling can be reduced by:

  • Wearing a compression garment
  • Avoiding excessive activity
  • Taking walks two to three times a day

Bruising can take a little more time to subside but should fade within a few weeks. The liposuction techniques offered by Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann are designed to reduce both bruising and swelling, and guard against discomfort, and following all our aftercare instructions will facilitate a swift and safe recovery. Most people achieve the optimal slimming effect within six to eight weeks after liposuction.

Maintaining your new look after liposuction

The best way to maintain your liposuction results is through diet and exercise. Once removed through liposuction, the fat cannot come back. New fat can, however, accumulate in the treatment area if you gain without proper care of your body. Fortunately, “proper care” does not demand anything extreme, just a dedication to healthy living. To help ensure your liposuction results are long-lasting it is best to:

  • Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Eat lean proteins
  • Avoid simple carbohydrates and sugar
  • Avoid highly processed foods
  • Get at least three hours of moderate exercise weekly

For optimal results, staying active is essential. Brisk walks, swimming, or another low-impact exercise should be undertaken daily to help prevent unwanted weight gain. More advanced forms of exercise can be taken up as well if you would like to enhance your results. We recommend working with a professional trainer if sculpting your frame is something you desire.

Am I a candidate for liposuction in Houston?

To be a good candidate for liposuction, it is best to be:

  • A nonsmoker
  • In generally good physical health
  • Close to your ideal weight
  • Prepared for a surgical procedure
  • Able to take time to rest
  • Willing to follow pre and post-operative instructions
  • Committed to maintaining results with lifestyle changes

It is important to remember that liposuction is a body contouring procedure and not designed for weight loss. If you are not close to your goal weight, you may need to take preliminary steps before becoming a good liposuction candidate.
