Plastic Surgery And Houston Ambulatory Surgical Facilities
In today’s economy it is increasingly common for surgical procedures to be performed in outpatient, ambulatory surgical centers over a hospital. This is especially true in the world of cosmetic surgery for a variety of reasons, including a medical doctor’s choice to call him/herself a “cosmetic surgeon” when in fact his/her area of expertise might be dermatology or general surgery. Physicians who are not board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery generally do not perform procedures in a hospital where one must have privileges, but often perform surgery in private surgical suites that may be in their office. However, this does not mean that a plastic surgeon who elects to perform procedures in an ambulatory surgical center in his/her office is suspect – especially not if the center is certified by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAASF). AAASF is the gold standard in terms of accreditations, and it is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring patient safety and quality of care in an outpatient surgical setting. Each and every AAASF accredited facility is required to meet stringent standards for operating room safety, equipment, and personnel. Nationwide, the majority of outpatient surgical facilities are not accredited by AAASF, but the Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center is a proudly accredited member. Dr. Eisemann and his team take pride in their AAASF certification and dedicate themselves to maintain an exceptional level of competency in their surgical staff and excellence in patient care.
