Trends In Cosmetic Surgery
Statistics collected by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that the demand for cosmetic surgery continues to grow in Houston and beyond. Across the US, 15.6 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in 2014, up 3 percent from the previous year. Additionally, reconstructive surgeries increased 1 percent to 5.8 million. Medical advancements and technological improvements were indicated as one cause of the increases.
- Buttocks: Newfound focus on the posterior continues as people embrace their curves. Buttock augmentation with fat grafting rose 15 percent, while buttock implants nearly doubled. Buttock lifts rose 44 percent as well.
- Minimally-Invasive and Cosmetic Surgical Procedures:Â Less invasive procedures increased 4 percent, with focus on Botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, and microderm abrasion leading the demand.
- Reconstructive Surgery: Breast reconstruction rates rose an encouraging 7 percent. Over 102,200 procedures performed using several different techniques indicate a greater awareness of how reconstructive surgery can play a role in recovery from breast cancer and improved quality of life for survivors.
Overall trends indicate that there is a shift in demand from the classic procedures of the past to new, less invasive procedures. People are focused on the subtle aesthetic enhancement of their own features attained through cosmetic surgery, rather than changing their looks in dramatic ways. In fact, major procedures like breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and facelift all decreased over the last year.
