What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction, sometimes called lipo, is a surgical procedure that uses a small cannula and gentle suction to remove small, localized fat deposits from the body. Many patients undergo liposuction in Houston as the final step in their weight loss journey, helping them achieve their ideal shape after reaching a stable, healthy weight. Our surgeons can perform liposuction on the following areas:

  • Ankle and calves
  • Inner knee
  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back and bra line
  • Chest
  • Face (cheeks, chin, and neck)

Who Is a Good Candidate for Liposuction in Houston?

Ideal candidates for liposuction are healthy, non-smoking adults who are at or near a stable weight and wish to remove small, localized fat deposits. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure and is not designed for weight loss, so you’ll need to commit to a healthy lifestyle to maintain your results.

During your consultation, Dr. Eisemann will perform a short physical exam to confirm your candidacy. If you’re still experiencing weight fluctuations after significant weight loss, you may need to wait to undergo liposuction.

Pricing Your Procedure

Because liposuction is a highly customizable procedure, we price our treatments per area for full transparency and straightforward patient planning. At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, liposuction costs $1,500 per treatment area. Your total procedure cost will depend on the following factors:

  • Number of areas treated
  • Surgical complexity
  • Whether other procedures will be performed in the same session

After your initial consultation, our team will share a detailed cost breakdown, including financing options, to ensure you’re fully informed every step of the way.

What to Expect From Your Liposuction in Houston

Your liposuction will be performed in a private suite at our QUAD A-accredited surgical center, and we’ll administer a local anesthetic and IV sedation to prevent pain and discomfort during treatment. To begin your procedure, Dr. Eisemann will make small incisions along your treatment areas to access your cells. Depending on your chosen lipo technique, he may use targeted ultrasonic energy or a specialized solution to loosen cells before removal.

Next, Dr. Eisemann will insert a small cannula (hollow needle) into the incisions to gently break apart and suction away the unwanted fat cells. He works slowly to avoid removing too much fat, which can create an overly slim or imbalanced appearance. All incisions will be closed with small sutures to promote consistent, smooth healing.

Gentle, Patient-First Recovery

Recovery after liposuction in Houston typically involves swelling, soreness, and mild bruising, which should resolve within two weeks. Depending on your treatment areas, we may provide you with supportive wraps or compression garments to help reduce swelling and encourage your tissues to settle properly.

Most patients resume normal activities, including social gatherings, desk work, and gentle movement, within a few days. We recommend taking short walks two to three times a day to increase circulation to your treatment areas. You’ll need to avoid excessive activity for several weeks, including strenuous exercise and running, as you heal.

Your Post-Op Process

After your procedure, our team will share a customized recovery plan tailored to your needs. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Sun protection and exposure requirements
  • Hygiene recommendations
  • Food and drink guidelines to follow
  • Recovery clothing options
  • Supportive garment guidance
  • Activity limitations
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

Over the coming weeks, you’ll return to our Houston office for regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll remove any remaining sutures, monitor your healing progress, and approve you to resume high-impact activities, such as swimming, intense exercise, and weight lifting.

Tumescent vs. Ultrasonic Liposuction

Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center offers both tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction, ensuring maximum flexibility to meet your body’s unique needs. The techniques are as follows:

Tumescent Liposuction

This approach uses an injection of a local anesthetic and a surgical solution to loosen fat deposits from your tissues, promoting more thorough cell removal. We may use tumescent liposuction alone or in combination with ultrasonic lipo.

Ultrasonic Liposuction

This technique uses ultrasound waves to emulsify fat deposits before cannula insertion, creating a smoother, more streamlined removal process. Ultrasonic lipo is best suited to fibrous or stubborn areas, such as the abdomen, flanks, and upper back, and typically results in less bleeding and bruising.

As part of your consultation, Dr. Eisemann will review both techniques with you to decide which is best for your specific situation.

Completing Your Transformation

Many of our Houston patients include liposuction as part of an overall body-contouring plan.

Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
  • Mommy Makeover
  • Thigh lift
  • Body lift

During your consultation, Dr. Eisemann will advise you on which procedures are safe to combine and which would be better suited to a phased approach.

Liposuction Frequently Asked Questions

Will liposuction tighten loose or sagging skin?

No. Liposuction removes fat, but does not affect skin laxity. Your skin will naturally retract after your procedure, creating smooth body contours. If you have excessive skin laxity, Dr. Eisemann may recommend an additional procedure to address your concerns.

If I gain weight, will fat return to the treated areas?

No. The fat cells removed during liposuction will not return to your treatment areas. However, the remaining fat cells may still enlarge during weight gain. We recommend maintaining a stable weight and sticking to healthy habits to preserve your results.

How much fat can be removed with liposuction?

Liposuction is designed to remove only small amounts of fat. It is not intended for weight loss. The total amount of fat removed during your procedure will be guided by safety and your anatomy rather than a target weight.
