What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes sagging skin, smooths deep lines, and restores the facial contours you remember from your youth. Considered the gold standard in facial rejuvenation, the procedure is focused on the mid and lower face to create more streamlined transitions between the face and neck. Our facelifts in Houston can address the following concerns:

  • Hollow cheeks
  • Deep nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Jowls
  • Excess skin along the neck, known as a “turkey wattle”
  • Double chin
  • Loss of jawline definition

Our facelifts go beyond repositioning outer skin layers to tighten the underlying SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) muscles to achieve rejuvenation that comes from within. By tightening, adjusting, and enhancing the internal structures of the face, our surgeons can craft long-lasting transformations that celebrate, not overpower, your natural beauty.

Pricing Your Procedure

The cost of a facelift in Houston typically ranges between $6,500 and $9,000, but can vary depending on the following factors:

  • Extent of correction
  • Technique used
  • Whether the neck is included in your surgical plan
  • Surgical complexity
  • Whether additional procedures will be performed in the same session

What to Expect From Your Facelift in Houston

Your facelift will be performed in our state-of-the-art, QUAD A-accredited surgical center in Houston, and you’ll rest in a private suite before and after your procedure. Depending on your treatment plan, you may receive general anesthesia or our signature IV sedation with nerve block to prevent pain during surgery.

To begin your procedure, Dr. Eisemann will make incisions behind the folds of the ears and along the hairline to access your tissues. Then, he’ll remove excess skin an fat, tighten the underlying facial muscles, and redrape the outer layers of skin for a tighter, firmer, and more lifted appearance. All incisions will be closed with small sutures to promote smooth, consistent healing.

Recovery Focused on You

Recovery after a facelift will depend on the technique used and your body’s unique healing timeline, but patients can expect swelling, tightness, bruising, and fatigue for approximately two weeks. You’ll need to rest with your head elevated for several days following your procedure to encourage fluid drainage. Our team will provide you with specialized face wraps and bandages to help reduce swelling and support your healing tissues.

Most patients take two weeks or longer to resume light activities, such as walking and desk work. You may wish to limit social interactions until all bruising and swelling have subsided for your own comfort. Strenuous activity should be limited for at least six weeks, and some tightness may linger as you continue to heal.

A Personalized Post-Op Process

After your procedure, we’ll share a customized recovery plan tailored to your body’s needs. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Hygiene and skin care recommendations
  • Supportive garment guidance
  • Side effects to monitor
  • Sun exposure and protection requirements
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Food and drink guidelines
  • Activity limitations
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

You’ll be monitored closely during your recovery, and you’ll return to our Houston office several times over the coming months for follow-up visits with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll remove any remaining sutures, check your healing progress, and approve you to resume high-impact activities once you’ve passed certain recovery milestones.

Types of Facelifts

Our surgeons are proud to offer multiple types of facelifts in Houston to ensure you get the results and experience you desire. You can choose from the following:

Traditional Facelift:

Our standard procedure uses an incision down the front of the ear, around the earlobe, and up behind the ear, allowing the surgeon to lift and resuspend underlying structures. The tissue is then tightened and repositioned to rejuvenate the face.

Mini Facelift:

Ideal for patients seeking a less invasive treatment, a mini facelift addresses the lower face and neck by removing and tightening loose or sagging skin. It uses small incisions around the ears and below the hairline, and it’s best suited to younger patients.

Deep Plane Facelift:

In a deep plane facelift, the SMAS layer is carefully lifted from the underlying muscles to allow for adjustments to the patient’s facial structure, reducing the risk of an overly tight or stretched appearance. It works best for patients with significant skin laxity and facial aging.

Revision Facelift:

This procedure corrects the results of a previous facelift, adjusting the patient’s outcome to suit their new aesthetic preferences or address structural issues with their original results.

Liquid Facelift:

A liquid facelift uses injectable dermal fillers and neuromodulators to restore lost volume and smooth fine lines and wrinkles without invasive surgery. The results last up to two years and require regular maintenance injections.

Achieving Your Desired Look

While a facelift creates major transformations in your appearance, many of our Houston patients choose to undergo additional procedures for a more comprehensive rejuvenation. Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Upper and/or lower blepharoplasty
  • Brow lift
  • Neck lift
  • Neck liposuction
  • Dermal fillers
  • Non-surgical skin treatments

Facelift Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have visible scars after my facelift?

Dr. Eisemann strategically places incisions behind the ears and hairline to camouflage them in the face and minimize the visibility of scars post-op. If you’re concerned about scarring, our team can include scar care recommendations as part of your customized recovery plan.

How long will my results last?

The final results of your facelift are designed to be long-lasting, with many patients enjoying their outcomes for 7-15 years. To extend the longevity of your results, we recommend maintaining a consistent skin care regimen, sticking to healthy habits, avoiding smoking, and limiting sun exposure.

What are the risks associated with a facelift?

Facelifts, like all surgical procedures, carry some risks, such as bleeding, infection, nerve damage, and asymmetry. Dr. Eisemann will review all possible complications with you during your consultation to ensure you’re fully informed and confident in your decision.

Will I lose sensation in my face after my facelift?

Some loss of sensation is normal during recovery, but should subside as you continue to heal. You may notice tingling or numbness along the mid and lower face for several weeks after your procedure. Permanent loss of sensation is uncommon with facelifts.
