What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty or abdominal tuck, is a surgical procedure that tightens your abdominal muscles and removes excess skin and fat from the midsection. Many of our Houston patients consider tummy tucks after pregnancy, helping rebuild their core after childbirth-related muscle separation. Others pursue surgery as the final step in their weight-loss journey, helping them further sculpt their midsections and bring their vision for themselves to life.

Depending on your needs, your tummy tuck may also include belly button repositioning to restore a more natural placement on the torso.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck in Houston are healthy, non-smoking adults who have excess skin, stubborn fat, and weakened muscles in their midsection. A tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure, and patients should be at or near a stable weight before pursuing surgery.

At Eisemann, we recommend patients have a BMI of 35% or lower to undergo a tummy tuck. This enhances the safety of the procedure and improves the long-term stability of your results.

Pricing Your Procedure

The cost of an abdominoplasty in Houston typically ranges from $9,000 to $13,000, depending on the following factors:

  • Surgical complexity
  • Amount of tissue removed
  • Whether additional procedures will be performed in the same session.

After your initial consultation, our team will share a detailed cost estimate and financing options for full transparency.

What to Expect From Your Tummy Tuck in Houston

Your tummy tuck will be performed at our QUAD A-accredited surgical center under our signature IV sedation and nerve block protocol. You’ll need to be accompanied by a trusted family member, friend, or partner to assist you during early recovery. We may also request additional lab testing before your procedure, and the results should be brought with you on surgery day.

To begin your tummy tuck, Dr. Eisemann will make an incision across the abdomen just above the pubic area. He’ll use this to cut away excess skin, tighten and reposition the abdominal muscles, and insert a cannula to perform liposuction on your midsection. The incision will be closed with small sutures to promote smooth, consistent healing.

Patient-Centered Recovery

Recovery after a tummy tuck in Houston typically involves swelling, bruising, and soreness, which should subside within one week. We may place drains to prevent fluid buildup during early recovery. Our team will provide you with compression garments, called binders, to help reduce swelling and support your tissues as they heal.

Most patients can resume light activity, including gentle movement, desk work, and social gatherings, within two weeks. We recommend taking short walks every day to improve blood flow and encourage lymphatic drainage. You’ll need to avoid strenuous exercise for at least six weeks to allow your body to heal.

Your Post-Op Process

After your procedure, our team will provide you with a personalized aftercare plan tailored to your body’s unique needs. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Supportive garment guidance
  • Surgical drain care requirements
  • Hygiene recommendations
  • Activity limitations
  • Recovery clothing options
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

Over the coming weeks, you’ll return to our Houston office for several follow-up appointments with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll monitor your healing progress and core strength, remove any remaining drains or sutures, and approve you to resume high-impact activities, such as intense exercise, running, and weight lifting.

Types of Tummy Tucks

At Eisemann, we offer the following options for your abdominoplasty in Houston:

Full Tummy Tuck

This procedure is designed to address moderate to severe skin laxity above and below the navel. It uses an incision below the bikini line to access the tissue and tighten your abdominal muscles.

Mini Tummy Tuck

In this method, Dr. Eisemann removes excess skin below the navel, creating a smaller scar and resulting in slightly less downtime. It’s best suited for women who have undergone a hysterectomy or C-section.

Extended Tummy Tuck

Here, our team will contour the hips and lower back, trim excess skin in the midsection, and tighten the abdominal muscles.

Completing Your Transformation

Many of our Houston patients include a tummy tuck as part of an overarching body rejuvenation plan. Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Thigh lift
  • Body lift
  • Mommy Makeover
  • Liposuction

Tummy Tuck Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have extensive scarring?

Dr. Eisemann strategically places the abdominoplasty incision below the bikini line, which helps minimize its visibility in everyday life. The incision typically stretches from hip to hip. If you’re concerned about scarring, our team can provide scar care recommendations after you’ve fully healed.

Can I get pregnant or have children after a tummy tuck?

Yes. A tummy tuck does not affect your ability to have children. However, an additional pregnancy and birth may impact your results and reverse the muscle tightening from your initial procedure.

Will a tummy tuck get rid of stretch marks?

Yes. Any stretch marks on your excess skin will be removed during your tummy tuck. Stretch marks above the incision will not be removed, but may be smoothed as part of skin redraping.

How long will my procedure take?

Abdominoplasties typically take between two and four hours to complete. During your consultation, Dr. Eisemann will share a realistic timeline so you know what to expect.
