What Is Perlane?

Perlane is FDA-approved for the treatment of wrinkles and lines in the nasolabial fold. The question then becomes: why choose Perlane instead of other injectable treatments? As mentioned above, Perlane is a dermal filler. It’s made from a synthesized form of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance all people have in their bodies. Hyaluronic acid moisturizes skin and gives it a rich, full appearance. Perlane works by plumping the skin in the treatment area, which smoothes away lines and wrinkles. It also attracts and binds water molecules, keeping the treatment area youthful and vibrant.

Perlane vs. Restylane

Perlane is closely related to Restylane, another dermal filler we offer. There are two significant differences between the two injectables. First, Perlane’s particles are much bigger than Restylane’s. Second, Perlane is injected much deeper in the skin. This makes it more appropriate for patients with significant, severe wrinkles and lines in the nasolabial fold.

But Is It Safe?

Our Houston plastic surgeon never offers any procedures that pose a health danger to his patients. All cosmetic procedures carry the risk of side effects, but Perlane has been approved by the FDA as both safe and effective. Those side effects tend to be moderate and short-lived. They include:
