What Is a Lip Augmentation?

A lip augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the lips through either a natural fat transfer, implants, or dermal fillers. Your chosen technique will depend on your aesthetic goals and preferences regarding surgical and non-surgical treatments. Regardless of the method, your lip augmentation will subtly increase lip volume, making them appear thicker, fuller, and more youthful.

Sculpt Luscious, Voluminous Lips

Many patients pursue lip augmentation to restore balance to their features, whether they’ve lost lip volume due to aging or genetics. The benefits of lip augmentations include the following:

  • Enhanced fullness for naturally thin lips
  • Reduction of lines, wrinkles, and creases around the mouth
  • More youthful-looking lips
  • Elevation of drooping mouth corners
  • Correction of genetic abnormalities
  • Increased self-confidence

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Lip Augmentation?

Ideal candidates for lip augmentation in Houston are healthy, non-smoking adults who fit the following criteria:

  • Have naturally thin lips
  • Are open to both surgical and non-surgical enhancements
  • Have noticed lip thinning with age
  • Have realistic expectations for the procedure

During your initial consultation, Dr. Eisemann will carefully evaluate your lips and mouth area to confirm your candidacy.

Pricing Your Procedure

The cost of your lip augmentation in Houston will depend on the technique used. Most procedures start at $2,000, but the final cost can vary based on the following factors:

  • Implant used, if applicable
  • Amount of filler used, if applicable
  • Amount of fat harvested from the body, if applicable
  • Surgical complexity
  • Whether additional procedures will be performed in the same session

After you’ve worked with Dr. Eisemann to choose your optimal lip augmentation technique, a member of our team will walk you through a complete cost breakdown and financing options for full transparency.

What to Expect From Your Lip Augmentation in Houston

Your lip augmentation experience will depend on the technique you choose. With dermal fillers, Dr. Eisemann will carefully inject small amounts of filler into the lips, working slowly to create gradual, natural-looking volume. Lip implants typically require incisions around or inside the lips to access the tissue and insert the implants, and all incisions will be closed with small sutures to promote consistent healing.

Lip augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis at our QUAD A-accredited surgical center in Houston. Most patients use local anesthesia with additional sedation to prevent pain and discomfort. Patients who opt for dermal fillers are free to go immediately following their injections, while patients who receive implants or a fat transfer will wait with a friend, family member, or partner in a private recovery suite until it’s safe to head home.

Recovery Tailored to You

Recovery after lip augmentation in Houston typically involves mild swelling, tenderness, and bruising for up to two weeks. You’ll need to rest with your head elevated for a few days to help reduce swelling after a fat transfer or implant-based augmentation.

Most patients resume normal activities, including desk work, gentle movement, and social gatherings, within two weeks. You’ll need to avoid strenuous exercise for up to three weeks to allow your body to heal. Dermal filler-based lip augmentations have no downtime, and you’ll be able to get back to your daily routine as soon as you leave our clinic.

Your Post-Op Process

After your procedure, we’ll share a customized recovery plan tailored to your unique treatment. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision or injection site care and cleaning protocols
  • Dental hygiene recommendations
  • Food and drink guidance
  • Sun exposure and protection requirements
  • Activity limitations
  • Side effects to monitor
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

Over the coming weeks, you’ll return to our Houston office for follow-up visits with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll ensure your tissues are healing properly, remove any remaining sutures, and clear you for high-impact activities, such as contact sports.

Types of Lip Augmentation

At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, we offer three main options for lip augmentations in Houston. You can choose from the following techniques:

Implant-Based Augmentation

This process uses small lip implants to increase lip volume, offering a long-lasting solution for overly thin or uneven lips.

Fat Transfer

In a fat transfer, fat cells are harvested from the patient’s own body, then purified for injection into the lips. This method is ideal for patients seeking permanent enhancements and a more natural approach to augmentation.

Dermal Fillers

For patients who are unsure of their desired look or who desire non-surgical enhancements, our hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers can temporarily increase lip fullness for up to six months.

Completing Your Transformation

Many of our Houston patients incorporate a lip augmentation into a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan. Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Cheek, chin, or temple dermal fillers
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Brow lift
  • Upper and/or lower blepharoplasty

Lip Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my lip augmentation results last?

The final results of your fat transfer or implant-based lip augmentation are permanent, and you’ll enjoy your outcome for years to come. Lip augmentations done with dermal fillers offer temporary results, with most patients noticing changes in lip volume after six months. You’ll need regular maintenance injections to preserve your results.

Is lip augmentation painful?

No. We administer anesthesia ahead of all procedures to prevent pain and discomfort during and after surgery. Some soreness or tenderness is a normal part of recovery, but it should not linger long-term.

When can I wear makeup again after my procedure?

If you received dermal fillers, you’ll be able to wear lip products within a few days. Patients who received lip implants or a fat transfer will need to wait until all swelling has resolved and their incisions or injection sites have fully healed, which may take a few weeks. Dr. Eisemann will confirm when it’s safe to wear lip makeup again during your follow-up appointments.
