What Are Facial Implants?

Facial implants are small, customizable inserts designed to enhance the contours of your cheeks, chin, jawline, or skull. Made from biocompatible materials, they’re inserted under the skin to create permanent changes to your facial curves, harmonizing your features as you age. Here, we use facial implants to address the following concerns:

  • A small or receding jawline
  • Rounded face
  • Poor chin structure
  • Abnormal sloping from the jaw to the neck
  • Lack of chin projection
  • Lack of jawline definition
  • Lack of cheek volume and definition
  • Poor facial balance
  • Flat nasal bridge
  • Skull asymmetry, ridging, or prominences

Are You a Good Candidate for Facial Implants?

Ideal candidates for facial implants in Houston are healthy, non-smoking adults who wish to permanently restore lost volume in their cheeks, jaws, chins, noses, or skulls. Patients must have realistic expectations for this procedure. During your initial consultation, Dr. Eisemann will perform a short facial exam to confirm your candidacy.

Pricing Your Procedure

The cost of receiving facial implants in Houston will depend on the following factors:

  • Whether the implants were custom-built or pre-made
  • Number of implants used
  • Surgical complexity
  • Whether additional procedures will be performed in the same session

After your consultation, we’ll share a detailed cost estimate, including financing options, for full transparency.

What to Expect From Your Facial Implants in Houston

Because facial implants can be used on so many parts of the face, every patient’s surgery experience will be different. In general, you can expect Dr. Eisemann to make small, strategic incisions inside the mouth, within the eyelid, or behind the hairline to access the tissue and create space for the implant. Once your implant has been inserted, he’ll adjust it as needed and close all incisions with small sutures to promote consistent healing.

We perform facial implant surgery on an outpatient basis at our state-of-the-art, QUAD A-accredited surgical center in Houston. Typically, patients receive our signature IV sedation with nerve block to prevent pain during surgery, but you may opt for local anesthesia with additional sedation. You and a trusted family member, friend, or partner will rest in a private recovery suite until you’re ready to head home.

Patient-First Recovery

Recovery after receiving facial implants in Houston is typically brief, with patients experiencing mild swelling and bruising for one to two weeks. You’ll need to rest with your head elevated for at least one week to help reduce initial swelling.

Most patients return to work, light movement, and social gatherings within one week, though you may choose to wait until all bruising has faded for your own comfort. You’ll need to limit strenuous exercise and avoid lifting objects weighing more than 5 lbs for at least four weeks to allow your body to heal.

A Personalized Post-Op Process

After your procedure, our team will share a targeted recovery plan tailored to your unique needs. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Skin care and hygiene recommendations
  • Sun protection and exposure requirements
  • Activity limitations
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

Over the coming weeks, you’ll return to our Houston practice for regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll ensure your implants have settled properly, remove any remaining sutures, and clear you to resume high-impact activities, like contact sports, running, and weight lifting.

Achieving Your Desired Look

While facial implants focus on restoring lost volume, many of our Houston patients combine them with other surgical and non-surgical treatments to elevate and enhance the face. Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Brow lift
  • Facelift
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Lip lift

If you’re unsure if facial implants are right for you, Dr. Eisemann may recommend starting with dermal fillers for temporary enhancement.

Facial Implants Frequently Asked Questions

Can I remove my facial implants in the future?

Yes. While facial implants are designed to be permanent, they can be removed if your aesthetic preferences change. For implant removal, you can fully restore your pre-op facial contours or opt for temporary dermal fillers for a more subtle change.

Will I lose facial sensation with facial implants?

Some patients experience a temporary loss of sensation during early recovery, but this should return as you continue to heal. Facial implants sit over the bone and do not interfere with your facial muscles, ensuring you retain a full range of motion in your cheeks, eyes, mouth, and more.

Can facial implants shift over time?

Implant shifting is rare. Dr. Eisemann carefully places implants above the bone so that they seamlessly integrate into the surrounding tissues and remain secure for years to come. If you notice any implant shifting, schedule an appointment for an implant evaluation.
