Calf implants are designed to improve the size and definition of the lower legs, helping create a more developed appearance when exercise alone has not produced the desired results.
How Do Calf Implants Work?
Soft but solid calf implants are made of form-stable silicone. The implants are surgically inserted into the lower legs to enhance the medial and lateral heads of the muscle. The implants are placed beneath the fascia covering the calf muscles, specifically the gastrocnemius.
While most men increase both the medial and lateral heads of the calf muscle during calf implant surgery, most cases of obvious muscle imbalance or trauma to the lower leg require augmentation of only one head. The implants can be inserted through a small incision in the back of the knee, and recovery can take up to a month.
