What Is a Mini Facelift?

A mini facelift is a modified facelift that uses a shorter incision around the hairline to lift the lower half of your face. It can improve mild skin laxity and smooth fine lines and wrinkles in the following areas:

  • Cheeks
  • Jawline
  • Neck

Like all facelift variations, a mini facelift has a skin-tightening effect, restoring a more youthful, firmer appearance to your face.

Pricing Your Procedure

The cost of your mini facelift in Houston will depend on the following factors:

  • Surgical complexity
  • Whether additional procedures will be performed in the same session

What to Expect From Your Mini Facelift in Houston

Your mini facelift will be performed on an outpatient basis at our QUAD A-accredited surgical center in Houston. We typically administer our signature IV sedation with nerve block to prevent pain during surgery, but you may opt for local anesthesia with sedation based on your preferences. You and a trusted family member, friend, or partner will rest in a private recovery suite until you’re ready to head home.

During surgery, Dr. Eisemann will make small incisions around your ears and hairline to access the lower facial structures. He’ll lift the underlying tissues and pull them up through the cheeks, removing excess skin to target early signs of laxity. Once the tissues have been properly positioned and your skin has been redraped, all incisions will be closed with small sutures to encourage smooth healing.

Gentle, Patient-First Recovery

Recovery after a mini facelift in Houston typically involves swelling, soreness, and bruising across the face and neck, which should subside within two weeks. We’ll provide you with specialized bandages and face wraps to help reduce swelling and support your tissues during early recovery.

Most patients require at-home assistance for at least 24 hours, though those with pets or children will need help for longer.

Typically, patients return to work, social gatherings, and light movement within two weeks, but you may wish to wait until all bruising has faded for your own comfort. You’ll need to avoid strenuous activities for at least four weeks to allow your body to heal properly.

A Personalized Post-Op Process

After your procedure, Dr. Eisemann will share a customized recovery plan that’s tailored to your unique treatment and medical needs. This plan may include the following items:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Sun protection and exposure requirements
  • Side effects to monitor
  • Hygiene and skin care recommendations
  • Food and drink guidelines
  • Activity limitations
  • Supportive garment guidance
  • Sleep position restrictions
  • Swelling and pain management strategies

Over the coming weeks, you’ll return to our Houston office several times for follow-up appointments with Dr. Eisemann. There, he’ll check your healing progress, remove any remaining sutures, and approve you to resume high-impact activities, such as running, swimming, and contact sports.

Mini vs. Traditional Facelift

Some patients come in to explore their mini facelift options when what they’re really looking for is a traditional facelift, and vice versa. While the procedures are similar, they have the following key differences:

Facial Focus:

A mini facelift targets the neck and bottom third of the face, while a full lift includes the midface, lower face, and neck.

Patient Age:

Here, mini facelifts are performed to combat early signs of aging and attract patients in their 30s and 40s, while traditional facelifts deliver more comprehensive rejuvenation for patients in their 60s and 70s.

Incision Site and Length:

Mini facelifts use smaller incisions around the ears and neck, while traditional facelifts require longer incisions, sometimes reaching down to the chin, to access the tissues.

Recovery Length:

Mini facelifts have a shorter recovery time than traditional facelifts, with most patients recovering in half the time required after a standard facelift.

Results:

For most patients, the results of a mini facelift are longer-lasting and more durable than those of a traditional facelift.

Achieving Your Desired Look

Many patients use a mini facelift to rejuvenate the lower face and turn to other procedures to target signs of aging along the upper face. Complementary procedures include the following:

  • Upper and/or lower blepharoplasty
  • Brow lift
  • Dermal fillers and neuromodulators
  • Laser skin treatments

Mini Facelift Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my mini facelift results last?

The final results of your mini facelift are designed to be long-lasting, with many patients enjoying their outcomes for 10 years or longer. To extend the longevity of your results, we recommend maintaining a stable weight, sticking to a consistent skin care routine, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure without proper protection.

Will I have visible scarring after my mini facelift?

Dr. Eisemann strategically makes incisions around the ear and behind the hairline to camouflage your scars in the natural curves of the face. Any resulting scarring is typically minimal and difficult to see. If you’re concerned about scarring, we can include scar care recommendations as part of your recovery plan.

How do I know if a mini or traditional facelift is right for me?

During your consultation, you and Dr. Eisemann will talk through your goals and preferences to determine which procedure is best for you. He’ll provide his expert input regarding the optimal procedure to achieve your desired look.
