Renew Your Confidence: Breast Implant Revision at Eisemann Plastic Surgery

While most women are satisfied with the outcome of their breast augmentation procedure for years to come, some desire to change their implant size, shape, or type for cosmetic reasons, while others desire implant exchange due to a complication such as a rupture or capsular contracture. Breast implant revision is an ideal solution for these patients as it can revitalize the chest and renew your happiness with your appearance.

At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston, we’re excited to meet you and create a treatment plan to restore your health, well-being, and peace of mind. Breast implant revision is a highly personalized treatment that can impact not only your aesthetics but your overall quality of life as well.

What is breast implant revision?

Breast implant revision surgery replaces faulty or undesirable devices with new ones, refining your appearance and enhancing your comfort. The treatment can address complications such as asymmetry, rupture, rippling, implant malposition, or capsular contracture. It can also combat BIA-ALCL by swapping out textured implants for smooth ones.

Who is a good candidate?

Ideal candidates for breast implant revision surgery are looking to resolve issues related to their implant size, shape, type, or appearance, as well as complications that inhibit comfort and well-being. Patients should be non-smokers who are at or close to a healthy weight and who are free from any significant uncontrolled medical concerns such as hypertension or bleeding disorders. They should be of sound mind and body and have realistic, positive attitudes towards their results. Of course, the only sure way to tell if you qualify for the procedure is to undergo a private consultation with our surgical team in Houston.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Breast implant revision is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. In many cases, the original incisions can be used, reducing discomfort and downtime after your procedure and limiting additional scarring. In cases where new incisions need to be created, they can be placed in the inframammary fold, encircling the nipples, or around the areola and running vertically down to the breast crease.

Your plastic surgeon will remove the old implants along with any scar tissue that is causing problems. Your breast capsule will be adjusted or enlarged as needed to properly house the new implants. In some cases, ADM (Acellular Dermal Matrix) or a breast lift may be added on to achieve the best results.

What can I expect from my recovery?

Recovery after breast implant revision is typically far less time-consuming and painful than the initial breast augmentation procedure due to the fact that the capsule will most likely not have to be recreated, and oftentimes the same incisions can be used to exchange the devices. Mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness will still occur to some degree, however.

Our team will provide you with a detailed aftercare plan and pain medications, as well as a compressive garment to help keep your new breast shape intact. You should plan to rest for around two weeks and avoid strenuous activities for up to four weeks.
