One of the most popular procedures we perform at Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston is a breast augmentation – also known as augmentation mammoplasty, or breast enlargement with breast implants. Some women feel that their breasts are too small for their bodies. Others want to restore breast volume lost due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy. The end result is always enhanced beauty and confidence.

A custom approach to breast augmentation

Each woman is different, and our breast augmentations are fully customized based on your unique goals and anatomy. Breast augmentation can correct breast asymmetry, improve breast sagging, or reconstruct a breast following surgery for breast cancer.

Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann may also recommend a breast lift (mastopexy) at the same time as the breast augmentation surgery if your breasts have lost their natural perkiness along with volume.

The Eisemann Plastic Surgery difference: Quality of results

Our two plastic surgeons are both exceptionally well trained, experienced, and extraordinarily talented in creating ideal, aesthetic results in breast augmentation. Dr. Michael Eisemann is a leader in the field and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, with over thirty years of practice.

Dr. Bradley Eisemann is among the most highly-trained plastic surgeons in the region selected for advanced fellowship training from among a wide field of candidates, from which only the most talented and accomplished are chosen. He has impeccable surgical techniques and a meticulous approach to every breast augmentation procedure.

What type of breast implants are right for me?

All breast implants have a silicone outer shell, and are filled with either silicone or saline. The shape of a breast implant can be either round or anatomically tear-drop shaped, and the outer shell can be either smooth or textured. The implants range in width, height, projection, fill, and level of silicone cohesiveness. The highly cohesive implants are often referred to as “gummy bear” implants. Our breast augmentation surgeons will discuss each type of implant with you so you can make an educated decision about how to proceed. Because all implants have benefits and drawbacks, it is very important have a surgeon who is educated in determining how to best help you figure out what implants will best fit your goals.

Silicone implants

These are the implants most commonly chosen by women, as the weight, bounce, and softness most closely mimics natural breast tissue. There is usually less risk of rippling.

Saline implants

Saline implants have the advantage of being filled after placement. Our surgeons can perform this procedure by placing the implants through the under-surface of the breast or through an incision in the armpit, leaving no visible scars on the chest or breast.

Gummy bear implants

These silicone implants are teardrop-shaped rather than round to create a very natural-looking enhancement.

Our breast surgeons can also correct problems from earlier surgeries that led to unsatisfactory results, including:

  • Implants too small
  • Implants too large
  • Wrong shape or projection
  • Rippling
  • Capsular contracture
  • Double bubble (implant has moved and created a double mound)
  • Implant edge is visible on breasts
  • Poorly positioned implants
  • Uneven result
  • Hardened implants
  • Older implants
  • Ruptured implants

Recovery from breast augmentation in Houston

We will ensure you fully understand the limitations of the recovery period for this procedure. You may need to take some days off work in the early stages, and you will need to avoid vigorous physical activities, including exercise for a few weeks.

To further discuss your breast augmentation, Houston Plastic Surgeons Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann will discuss options with you such as:

  • Breast implant type
  • Breast implant incision location
  • Breast implant placement

What size of breast implant is right for your body?

Your breast implant size will be based on the dimensions of your chest, how much natural breast tissue is present, and your breast size in relation to your other features.

It is important to remember that the size of your implants can impact other procedural options such as type of implant and implant placement.

Communication and surgical technique: The key to our beautiful results

For ideal results, you should be open and honest with our doctors regarding your desires during the planning phase of your breast surgery. Our open discussion with you will allow us to make procedural modifications to achieve a result that matches your vision for your figure.

What is the breast augmentation procedure?

Breast augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure, performed with general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with IV sedation in our nationally accredited Houston operating room facility. Our surgical facility is accredited by the AAAASF, American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. Depending on the type of implants you select during your consultation with Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann, the details of the surgical procedure will vary.

Common incision placements are under the breasts, around the areola, in the armpit, or through the belly button. The implants are placed either above or below chest muscles.

Many patients choose to combine breast augmentation with a breast lift to achieve the most aesthetic look. These procedures can be performed in conjunction to increase both the volume and perkiness of your breasts.

What to expect after breast augmentation surgery in Houston

Recovery from breast augmentation is a personal issue. How your body responds to surgery, your natural healing abilities, and other factors unique to your procedure will make your recovery different from anyone else’s. It is reassuring to be confident that Houston breast surgeons, Dr. Michael Eisemann, Dr. Bradley Eisemann, and their professional staff will support you through the entirety of your recovery and are available to you should any concerns arise.

Week one

Mild exercise such as walking should be resumed on the day of your surgical procedure. Frequent walks can help reduce swelling and speed recovery. You should avoid more strenuous activities that can impact your incisions until Dr. Michael Eisemann or Dr. Bradley Eisemann advise otherwise. Generally, this is within two to six weeks.

Week two

Swelling and bruising may continue for several weeks, but most women are able to resume work and some normal activities within five to seven days. During your initial consultation, we will discuss with you how long you should take off of work based on the physical demands of your job.

Week four

The swelling and bruising are over, and your implants have settled into place, in most cases. Your new breasts are ready to be revealed in low-cut tops, lingerie, or a swimsuit.

Week eight

You should have achieved almost a full recovery. If your implants were placed through the breast fold, the scar is still visible and will usually fade to a thin line over the weeks and months ahead. It is hidden beneath the breast mound, and not easily visible.

Beautiful breasts can be yours

Several breast implant options will impact the final aesthetics of your breast augmentation procedure. Triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Eisemann and fellowship-trained, board-eligible plastic surgeon Dr. Bradley Eisemann offer a wide range of implant options. You can expect a completely customized breast augmentation that will help you achieve the look of your dreams.

Your breast implant options include saline implants, silicone implants, or anatomically shaped implants. Additionally, the shape, texture, fill, and cohesivity levels vary depending on the implant you and Dr. Michael Eisemann and Dr. Bradley Eisemann select. The highly cohesive implants are often referred to as “gummy bear” implants. Breast implants can be either round or teardrop-shaped. Some implants require texturing to ensure they remain in place after they are placed.
