A lip lift in Houston is a surgical procedure that removes a small amount of skin from the upper lip underneath the nose to achieve an upper lip that can appear fuller, more attractively sculpted, and well-positioned. The procedure will shorten the upper lip, which can produce an aesthetically pleasing contour to the mouth. The red, colored, interior section of the mouth is subtly revealed, creating more lip volume and more tooth show.

Enhance your lip appearance with a custom lip lift in Houston.

A lip lift can be completed as a standalone procedure or in addition to other procedures performed at the same time.

What is a lip lift?

Many people choose to enhance lip volume with fillers, but another option to change the shape and appearance of the upper lip is a lip lift. While this procedure will not, by itself, increase the volume of the upper lip, it will permanently change the shape and appearance of the upper lip. By defining certain upper lip highlights, a lip lift will help the upper lip appear fuller and more aesthetically pleasing. The procedure involves removing a strip of carefully-designed skin to lift and reshape the appearance of the center lip area – the “Cupid’s bow.” The peaks become higher and more alluring, and there is more tooth show with smiling.

One of the more distressing signs of aging occurs as the upper lip skin between the nose and the red portion of the lip becomes longer. The lips lose volume, become flatter, and tend to hide the upper teeth. This results in a deflated lip that loses its attractive, full appearance. A lip lift restores a more youthful look to the lips, reduces the distance between the nose and upper mouth, reveals more of the soft pink interior of the upper lip, and can create the illusion of enhanced size.

What is the procedure like?

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis at Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, a private, luxury clinic. The lip area is numbed with a local nerve block so the treatment is painless. The planned surgical excision is precisely made, and the defect meticulously closed to conceal the scar as best as possible. The planned excision of tissue is commonly referred to as a “bullhorn” incision, as it mimics the shape of a bullhorn. The procedure takes about one hour to complete, and usually the recovery and downtime is minimal.

Who is a candidate for a lip lift?

The candidates for a lip lift in Houston come in two types:

  • Older women who see their lip volume diminishing and see the distance between nose and mouth stretching. Loss of skin resilience is a natural event that occurs with time, and can impact lip appearance. Often the upper teeth become hidden from view, even when smiling.
  • Younger women who want to have a sexier pout, who are tired of the ongoing need for filler injections and are looking for a long-term, one-time treatment.

What is the recovery time after a lip lift?

The stitches are removed five to seven days after the surgery. The scar will fade and heal over the months ahead, finally appearing as a thin white line, barely perceptible. You may want to plan for two weeks off before you return to a busy social life. Two weeks after surgery, the incision will be healed and can be camouflaged with makeup.

What anesthesia is used?

Depending on whether other surgical procedures are performed alongside a lip lift, the surgery may be completed with local anesthesia only, with light IV sedation, or with general anesthesia.
