Dr. Roy Kim From San Francisco Talks About The “mommy Makeover”
Hello Houston from the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Houston and Dr. Michael Eisemann!
Today we’re going to talk about a plastic surgeon in San Francisco named Dr. Roy Kim who has some thoughts on “Mommy Makeovers”
For those not familiar, a “Mommy Makeover” is a combination of different procedures performed after a woman has a baby to help her regain the body she had before and or to reduce the effects the pregnancy had on her body.
A tummy tuck is very common as a part of this procedure as well as a tightening of the skin around the stomach due to it expanding and stretching during pregnancy. Sometimes liposuction is also performed as well.
Dr. Kim comments, “Moms need to know that recovery from a tummy tuck varies with each woman, but recovery can/ may take a few weeks depending on physical condition before surgery. This means a mom needs to prepare for help around the house or with the kids while she focuses on healing,”
Another common part of the procedure is breast augmentation, this is because of the breast tissue changing due to the rapid growth which can result in a loss of elasticity.
There are many cases where the body will adjust back to what it was before the pregnancy and there are other times when it does not. The reasons depend on a variety of factors and sometimes it is simply a matter of genetics.
Mothers to be who are involved in pre-birth exercise classes have a higher chance of getting their old body back or getting closer to it and this is recommended because it is always a good idea to work together with your body to have a healthy relationship and this activity will stimulate and help facilitate any procedure which means reduced healing times and in many situations less extensive surgery.
“These two procedures are not necessarily needed for every patient. When they are combined, however, many women are concerned with whether or not they can continue to breast feed if they have more children. The answer is yes-the ability to lactate or produce milk should be possible long-term after surgery,” Dr. Kim said. – A typical recovery time is two weeks for this procedure. The more procedures you have, the longer recovery time may be required. For example, if you need just a tummy tuck, your recovery will be faster than if you have a tummy tuck and liposuction. San Francisco patients who have come to me are always advised to have someone available to help with every day functions and with the children during recovery,” – Dr. Kim
