Facial implants allow you to create a more appealing facial contour by adding volume to the cheeks, chin, jawline, or skull. Many people inherit facial traits that they feel are less attractive and choose to have facial implants to create a more aesthetic facial balance and structure.

What are facial implants?

Facial implants are made from biocompatible materials, and are available in a wide array of shapes and sizes. They can even be customizable and patient-specific. At Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center in Houston, our father-son team of plastic surgeons can advise you about facial implants, and answer all your questions regarding making subtle changes to your facial structure with implants. Subtle changes to the chin, jawline, cheeks, or skull can make a remarkable difference in your overall facial balance and do wonders for your self-confidence.

What could facial implants do for my look?

These implants are used to create a more structured look to the face, and can resolve any of the following aesthetic problems:

  • Small jawline
  • Receding jawline
  • Round face
  • Small chin structure
  • A slope from jaw to neck
  • Lack of chin projection
  • Lack of definition at jawline
  • Lack of volume and definition at cheeks
  • Lack of balance between cheeks and jaw
  • Flat nasal bridge
  • Asymmetry of the skull
  • Skull ridging or prominences

Facial implants: The procedure

The location and type of implant will determine the incision used and the method of placing and securing the implant. Incisions are typically hidden inside the mouth, on the inner surface of the eyelid, or in the hairline. The goal is to always minimize the visibility of any scarring.

Rather than undergoing the procedure under general anesthesia, at Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center we offer IV sedation with a nerve block for some of our facial implant procedures. Our level of training and expertise in operating room procedures allows us to provide this option. Rather than being entirely sedated, you will be partially awake and free from pain or anxiety during your surgery. Depending on the type of facial implant, the surgery usually lasts from one to three hours.

What is the recovery time?

The recovery time is typically brief, requiring only a few days to a week off work or other activities for most people. You can expect some swelling and bruising, which peaks at about day three. You will need to sleep with your head elevated and avoid lifting anything over 5 lbs. for about one week or more. Your exercise will be limited for four to six weeks, after which you can return to your usual routine.

Why choose us?

When you are considering a facial implant procedure, your choice of plastic surgeon is the most critical point in the success of your procedure. Facial implants make up a unique subset of plastic surgery procedures that are not commonly taught in traditional plastic surgery training. Dr. Michael Eisemann is triple board-certified and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Bradley Eisemann is a board-certified plastic surgeon with fellowship training in craniofacial surgery in New York, where he gained advanced skills and innovation that he brings to the practice. You can expect total honesty and open communication about facial implants. Your surgery will be performed either in our AAAASF accredited surgery center or in the hospital. Both are equipped with the latest technology. When appropriate, in-office surgery offers privacy, discretion, and is often more affordable than treatment at a hospital.
